“Open Laboratory” to test scientific literacy

2 November 2023 г.

Акция по проверке научной грамотности "Открытая лабораторная"
A large-scale event “Open Laboratory” to test scientific knowledge will be held in Russia on November 11, 2023. The event will be timed to coincide with World Science Day for Peace and Development. Its participants will test their scientific knowledge in the largest cities of the country.

During 30 minutes, participants will have to answer 27 interesting questions about our complex world people living in it. Then, experienced “lab heads”—scientists and science popularizers—will announce the correct answers and analyze each task in detail. Thus, each participant will not only immediately know his result, but will also receive a lot of new, interesting and useful information, as well as memorable souvenirs.

Anyone over 12 years old can take part in the “Lab”. Krasnoyarsk has been a participant in this event since 2017, which is the first year it was held. In Krasnoyarsk, the “Open Laboratory” will be held at several venues. Among them are:
· Krasnoyarsk Science Center SB RAS (Akademgorodok, 50);
· Information Center on Atomic Energy (Ada Lebedeva St., 78);
· Children's technopark park "Quantorium" (Dubrovinsky St., 1i);
· Krasnoyarsk Regional Palace of Pioneers (St. Constitution of the USSR, 1);
· Siberian Federal University (79 Svobodny Ave., room B1-01);
· Polytechnic Institute, Siberian Federal University (Kirensky St., 26);
· Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Materials Science, Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsky Rabochiy Ave. 95);
· Institute of Trade and Services, Siberian Federal University (L. Prushinskaya St., 2, building No. 74, room 4-20);
· M.F. Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology (Mira Ave., 82);
· D. Hvorostovsky Siberian State Institute of Arts (Mira Ave., 98, assembly hall).

This year, the Open Laboratory venues will be organized not only in Krasnoyarsk, but also in other areas of the Region, namely:
· Zheleznogorsk. Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy of the State Fire Service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (Severnaya St., 1, room 2.1.6);
· Boguchany. "Boguchanskaya Secondary School No. 4" (Tsentralnaya St., 35);
· Oktyabrsky settlement. Oktyabrskaya School No. 9 (Pobedy St., 21);
· Aban settlement. V. S. Bogutsky Aban Secondary School No. 4 (1st May St., 101).

“Open Laboratory” combines entertaining and educational formats. It is interesting for scientists themselves, families with children, and anyone who wants to learn something new and spend a couple of Saturday hours fruitfully to participate in it. This year, the scientific event is taking place not only in Krasnoyarsk, but also in several cities and villages of the Krasnoyarsk Region. This indicates that science is becoming accessible to all residents of the region, regardless of their location. In addition, this allows us to talk about modern scientific achievements, to introduce science not only to residents of the regional capital, but also to residents of the areas who often lack such opportunities,” said the event coordinator Egor Zadereev, head of the scientific communications group of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center SB RAS, member of the commission of RAS for science popularization.
The partner of the event in Krasnoyarsk is the Krasnoyarsk Regional Science Foundation.
