Research Institute of Agriculture and Ecology of the Arctic
In 1937 the Research Institute of Polar Agriculture, Animal husbandry, Hunting and Fishing was established on the basis of the departments of reindeer breeding, economics, as well as hunting and fishing biology of the Research Institute of the Arctic in Leningrad. In 1957 the Institute was transferred fr om Leningrad to Norilsk where it was given a new name: Research Institute of Agriculture of the Arctic, the Institute was subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic (since 1969 – to the Siberian Branch of the All Russian Academy of Agriculture). In 1987 the Institute was awarded with the Order «Badge of Honor» for the results obtained in the research work and for the scientific support of agriculture of the Arctic. In 2002, the name of the Institute was changed to the State Scientific Institution Research Institute of Agriculture of the Arctic of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In 2014 the name was again changes to The Federal State Budget Scientific Institution «Research Institute of Agriculture and Ecology of the Arctic subordinate to the Federal Agency of Research Organizations
The Federal State Budget Scientific Institution «Research Institute of Agriculture and Ecology of the Arctic» was included into The Federal State Budget Scientific Institution Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences whose name was, then, changed to the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution «Federal Research Center «Krasnoyarsk Science Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences».
The main research directions of the Institute are connected with the solution of the current problems of the region – the development of environmentally friendly, resource-saving technologies of agro-industrial complex management and traditional branches of economy in the Arctic region, efficient use of the wild reindeer population and other and other game animals and birds, prevention of diseases which are dangerous both for animals and humans, restoration of disturbed lands, study of biodiversity under the condition of anthropogenic environment and monitoring of the most vulnerable environmental objects, development of new ways of using and methods of processing commercial production.
