October 26 is the 90th anniversary of the birth of Academician Alexander Sergeevich Isaev (1931-2018).

He was the director of the Institute of Forest of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1977-1979), the chairman of the Presidium of the Krasnoyarsk division of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1979-1988).

Alexander Sergeevich Isaev is a Soviet and Russian scientist in the field of forest biogeocenology, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, public official and chairman of the USSR State Committee for Forestry, the USSR Minister.

The main works of Alexander Isaev are devoted to forest ecology, sustainable forest management, protection of forests from pests and diseases. He is the author of over 300 works, including 10 monographs on various problems in forestry.

Under the leadership of the scientist, fundamental studies of the dynamics of the number of forest insects were carried out, which opened up the possibility of predicting and regulating the number of forest pests.

Alexander Isaev was also one of the organizers and leading performers of the aerospace monitoring program for Russian forests.

He was awarded the Order of Honor 2012, the Order of Friendship 1999, the Order of the October Revolution, and two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor. He was the Laureate of the 2002 Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology and the Honorary Doctor of Moscow State Forest University 1998.
