In Moscow, within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology, , 2021, the VI All-Russian Youth Scientific Forum "Science of the Future - Science of the Young" and the V International Scientific Conference "Science of the Future" were held on November 17-20, which involved a series of events, including presentation of the reports on mega-grants, performances made by leading scientists, and youth scientific competitions.

A postgraduate student of the Federal Research Center "Krasnoyarsk Science Center SB RAS", engineer of the laboratory of chemoautotrophic biosynthesis at the Institute of Biophysics FRC KSC SB RAS Kristina Sapozhnikova became the winner of the competition of research works performed by students and postgraduates of Russian universities in the section "Life Sciences and Medicine" for the scientific report "Microbiological synthesis of biodegradable polymers using promising, economically viable carbon sources ”.

“The work presented at the competition concerns the issues of biosynthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates, polymers capable of natural degradation in natural ecosystems. In our laboratory, a very effective producer of these polymers, Cupriavidus necator IBP / SFU-21, was obtained, and the study was aimed at investigating the characteristics of the growth of these bacteria and their synthesis of PHA on various carbon sources in order to further scale up the cultivation process.
The geography of the forum participants was huge, and the level of the presented works was very high: the competition was serious. For me, the forum became not only an opportunity to tell about my research to a wide audience of world-renowned scientists, but also a source of new knowledge and new acquaintances. Since the competition “Science of the Future - Science of the Young was combined with the international conference “Science of the Future”, it was a great possibility to plunge into the scientific environment and learn about investigations which are out of the scope of my field of research. This is a unique chance to gain new knowledge and to be in the course of the latest science news,” said Kristina Sapozhnikova.
