On Friday, June 21, in the center of Krasnoyarsk, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the building of the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology SB RAS in memory of the famous scientist and founder of science, former director of the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology SB RAS, counsellor of RAS, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, Laureate of the USSR State Prize  and the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation, Gennady Leonidovich Pashkov.


Gennady Pashkov was a respected expert in the field of non-ferrous, rare and precious metal metallurgy, physical chemistry, and technology of inorganic substances. Under his scientific supervision, processes for the extraction of indium, thallium, cadmium, tellurium, and cobalt from complex solutions were developed and successfully implemented in the industry. The research in the field of the development and industrial application of new extraction processes and combined hydrometallurgical schemes for processing unconventional and technogenic raw materials and industrial products of rare and nonferrous metals was awarded the USSR State Prize in science and technology and the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in science and technology. Merits and achievements were also awarded the Order of Friendship, the Order of Honor and other government awards.


Gennady Leonidovich worked in Krasnoyarsk since 1983 and headed the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology SB RAS from 1990 to 2010. His experience, high qualification as a leader, his energy, wisdom, awareness of personal responsibility, and kind attitude to people allowed him to retain the Institute as an efficient scientific organization in a difficult period of the country's history, to consolidate the research team, to preserve and develop the material base, and to form relevant scientific directions of the Institute. Gennady Leonidovich established the Scientific School "Investigation of Heterogeneous Systems and Processes in the Complex Processing of Polymetallic Raw Materials", which has the status of "The Leading Scientific School of the Russian Federation"; he headed the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Krasnoyarsk State University; he organized the scientific forums “Siberian Gold” and “Nonferrous Metallurgy” in Krasnoyarsk, which became the basis for the annual International Congress “Nonferrous Metals and Minerals”; he was also a member of the editorial board of several specialized scientific journals; and he organized Doctoral Dissertation Board at the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology SB RAS.


Gennady Leonidovich will remain in the memory of his colleagues as a considerate, positive, energetic leader, a person attentive to people and a knowledgeable and open-minded scientist.
