Krasnoyarsk scientists will acquaint schoolchildren with the professions of the future

The main idea of the workshop is to present to high school students promising areas of research of Krasnoyarsk scientists, their connection with the real sector of the economy, and to present competencies and skills which will be in demand in the coming years.
Schoolchildren will be introduced to such developed areas of science and technology as biotechnology, digital agriculture, creation of new composite materials and nanotechnology, and work with big data.
The point is that each of these directions has high perspectives in Krasnoyarsk, including scientific projects supported by Russian Science Foundations.
“For several years, during the Festival “Science 0+”, we have been inviting schoolchildren to get acquainted with modern science through master classes prepared by young scientists of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center. In the years of science and technology, we have slightly expanded the format. Now it is a vocational school-workshop. We have chosen several areas which, according to many experts, belong to the “professions of the future”. Working with big data, digital agriculture, bio or nanotechnology are now rapidly growing and well-paid sectors of the modern economy. For each profession, we recorded an online lecture and prepared a master class. The school-conference was supported by the Regional Science Foundation. I hope teachers and schoolchildren will appreciate our proposal” said Yegor Zadereev, head of the group of scientific communications of FRC “KSC SB RAS ”.
For each of the directions, a "package" of educational materials in the form of lectures and master classes has been prepared for schoolchildren. Thus, the workshop will be held in a mixed format.
Online part: participants can listen to lectures by young scientists and answer test questions.
Offline: master classes in biotechnology, digital agriculture, creation of new composite materials and nanotechnology, work with big data.
In order to have a diploma on the successful completion of the workshop program and souvenirs from the Federal Research Center "KSC SB RAS", the participant must answer online questions and take part at least in one of the master classes.

How to calculate crops from space?
Students will become familiar with modern methods of studying vegetation using remote sensing methods, as well as they will learn how to independently obtain plant pigments - compounds through which satellite and terrestrial systems distinguish between plants and determine their condition.

Synthesis of nanoparticles
Participants will learn about the application of nanoparticles in different spheres of life, from the creation of new materials to the treatment of cancer; they will get acquainted with the technology of chemical synthesis of metal nanoparticles. They will try to carry out themselves basic chemical reactions leading to the synthesis of nanoparticles in liquid media and their extraction from the solution.

Neural networks for beginners
Participants will learn what a neural network is, the principals of its work. Participants will create their own neural network and teach it to recognize handwritten fonts.

New materials: smart glasses
Participants will be told about the operation principles of "smart" glasses, where composite materials with variable optical characteristics are used. Participants of the master class themselves will be able to make a "smart" glass from a polymer liquid crystal film.

Biotechnology and bioluminescence: living light
Participants will learn what animals on the planet can glow, how and why they do it, and where this property can be used. Participants will make a model of a glowing protein with their own hands, they will observe colonies of glowing bacteria, try to get a glow in a test tube, and change its color.
