Krasnoyarsk scientists told why and how one can apply bioluminescence of living organisms in science
19 November 2020 г.
Bioluminescence is the ability of living organisms to emit light, independently or in symbiosis with other organisms. This is an incredibly beautiful process. Scientists from different parts of the world are trying to understand its mechanism, chemical action, why living organisms need it, and, most importantly, how this light can be used to serve humanity.
The Institute of Biophysics of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center of SB RAS is one of the leading research centers which studies bioluminescence. Today, scientists already know how to use the luminous protein of bioluminescent organisms in medicine, for example, to determine tick-borne encephalitis, melanoma, multiple sclerosis, as well as for toxicological tests and other technologies. Scientists of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences tell about the latest achievements in the field of bioluminescence in the "Great Leap Forward" program on the TV channel Nauka 2.0.
