Owing to the national project "Science", the replenishment of the equipment of the Regional Center for Collective Use, created on the basis of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center in 2001, continues. Over the past two years, equipment has been purchased for almost 300 million roubles. Vasily Beleniuk, junior researcher at the Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North, told about the new metabolic analyzer.

“Using the technology for estimating metabolic reactions, the modern metabolic analyzer can analyze the effect of drugs on various cells of the organism. It is possible to evaluate an individual response within the framework of the personalized approach or, on the contrary, by analyzing a large group of patients at once, to form general ideas about a specific impact. By changing the conditions and composition of the culture medium in which the test samples are incubated, we can simulate a variety of conditions. A striking example is dealing with tumor material. Taking a fragment of a tumor from a particular patient, isolating key protein factors from it and adding them to the cell culture, one can assess the ability of the immune system to respond to the presence of tumor agents, as well as to assess the dynamics of changes occurring in the tumor environment.

We learned about the modern metabolic analyzer (in our case, Agilent) a few years ago. In Russia, at the moment, there are a little more than ten of them, and beyond the Urals there are just one or two. This technology has come to Krasnoyarsk only now. The device operates in the Center for collective use of the Federal Research Center "KSC SB RAS", on the basis of the Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North. Specialists from other institutions can come to us with their tasks and perform the necessary studies with the help of our operator. Quite often people come to us with a ready-made idea. However, the work always begins with a discussion, then everything is adjusted to the capabilities of the equipment, a full-fledged design is built, and only after that joint research is carried out. Often, colleagues do additional research on their own equipment. And at the end, all the results obtained are calculated in complex, analyzed and published. During our work, we have collaborated both with other departments of our Center and with a number of leading medical centers in Krasnoyarsk.

Today, all the employees involved in the assessment of cell metabolism are regularly trained, which maintains the high level of their qualification."
