Hordes of aphids set down in Krasnoyarsk
14 September 2020 г.
What are these insects and what to do is commented on by scientists of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center of SB RAS: Natalia Kirichenko, Candidate of Biological Sciences, senior researcher at the V.N. Sukachev Institute of Forest - and Nikita Babichev, Candidate of Biological Sciences, junior researcher at the V.N. Sukachev Institute of Forest.
“This is not a lacewing, as some sources suggested, but a birch aphid. It is not dangerous for humans and crops, does not eat fur products, so there is no need to worry. We just need to wait out this biological phenomenon.
In connection with the warm spring, summer and autumn, aphids began to actively reproduce. Moreover, now the breeding periods of two species coincided, in female aphids, which reproduce by partogenesis, that is, without the participation of a male and in those individuals that reproduce sexually. About in a couple of weeks with the first serious cold it will end, " the scientists note.
