In the Federal Research Center "KSC SB RAS" the School-Laboratory "From schoolchildren to scientist, first steps" was organized, where the latest achievements of the project "RAS-supported Schools" were presented. The event was organized with the support of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Science Foundation.

The participants of the vocational guidance event were greeted by the Deputy Minister of Education of the Krasnoyarsk Region, Doctor of Historical Sciences Denis Nikolaevich Guerguilyov: “When the project of “RAS-supported Schools” was launched, we discussed which schools could become pilot schools in this project. The choice fell on three educational institutions in Krasnoyarsk: School No. 10, Gymnasium No. 13 and Lyceum No. 7. I would like to note that when choosing future carrier and determining the direction of development, it is very important for a parent and a child to try “to touch” the realities of various topics. The project " RAS-supported Schools " develops interest in children, teaches them to set goals and objectives and to understand how to achieve them. Now we have nine classes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, next year there will be three more of them. The RAS-supported classes will pass the final tests, and we will closely monitor the results and see where the children who have achieved success during their studies will go. We hope that further studies they will choose the leading universities of the Krasnoyarsk Region. "

Director of the Federal Research Center KSC SB RAS, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Alexander Arturovich Shpedt in his welcoming speech told about the peculiarities of the profession of a scientist and about the opportunities of young people in the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center: “I am very impressed when people choose scientific work. The quality of life of a scientist is often higher than in many other areas of activity. The fact is that scientists have their own vision of the picture of the world, and they seek for knowledge. KSC SB RAS is a background platform for the RAS Schools. This is completely true because our center is a large scientific organization, which in many respects ranks third in Russia among academic organizations. We have nine institutes, five basic farms, a plant, a center for collective use, which equipment worth billions of roubles is concentrated. There are postgraduate studies and well-established scientific schools with access to world-class scientists. All this allows our youth to find their place and scientific direction. Schoolchildren need to understand the technology of scientific research right now, choose the direction they like, find teachers and fit into the research team, because science is a collective doing. And I think that they should strive for scientific achievements of the world level. "

The scientific supervisor of FRC KSC SB RAS Shabanov Vasily Filippovich noted that the RAS-supported Schools were organized to attract young people to the scientific environment and he thanked the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Region for assistance in the development of this project. “We hope that the project will be developed by joint efforts. Good conditions have already been created for young Krasnoyarsk residents. It must be remembered that fifteen world-class scientific and educational centers have been created in the Russian Federation, and our region, the Federal Research Center and the universities of Krasnoyarsk are included in this number. Thus, young people after school have a world-class choice in Krasnoyarsk. I am very grateful to the school teachers who have well accepted the idea of the pivotal schools for their assistance. Special thanks to the leaders of the project in schools, and to the scientists of our center, who are doing the main work. "

On-site and virtual participants of the Laboratory School were shown several videos “One day of a student-researcher”. One of the videos showed how in a scientific laboratory students of Gymnasium No. detected point mutations 13 using the polymerase chain reaction method in real time regime. Their research was aimed at studying the genetic predisposition to severe bronchial asthma.

In another video, students from the RAS class assessed the quality of tap and drinking water. Using a bioluminescent analyzing complex, the schoolchildren examined water samples from different sources and determined their toxicity. Then, the young researchers discussed their conclusions and assumptions.

There were also some spectacular moments. Young scientists demonstrated schoolchildren a series of physical and chemical experiments. After that, the school participants asked researchers questions about the work of scientists, research interests and technologies of the future.

The event ended with a speech by the Directors of three educational institutions that are part of the RAS Supported School project in Krasnoyarsk, and with a discussion of plans for the future.
