Scientists of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center told about bioluminescence
12 February 2021 г.
Bioluminescence is the ability of living organisms to emit light, independently or in symbiosis with other organisms. This is an incredibly beautiful process. Scientists from different parts of the world are trying to understand its mechanism, chemical action, why living organisms need it, and, most importantly, how this light can be used in the benefit of humanity.
The Krasnoyarsk Region is one of the leaders in the study of bioluminescence processes in Russia. The laboratories of the Institute of Biophysics KSC SB RAS study the bioluminescent systems of luminous organisms: bacteria, coelenterates, worms and fireflies, identify common patterns and differences between them, and also develop the foundations for the use of bioluminescence in medicine, biotechnology, ecology and education.
Researchers of the Photobiology Laboratory told about their research and developments in the program "What and How" on the TV channel "Yenisei".
