World Science Day. Science in the service of society in the fight against the pandemic

10 November 2020 г. FRC KSC SB RAS

Всемирный день науки. Наука на службе общества в борьбе с пандемией
November 10 is the World Science Day.

We congratulate all scientists on this day!

This day is a reminder of the important role of science in society, including the need for the general public to participate in the discussion of emerging scientific issues. Science and technology have undoubtedly had a significant impact on improving living standards and labor productivity, and they have changed our daily life.

This year, the World Science Day is dedicated to the theme “Science in the service of society in the fight against the pandemic”. In 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic has once again demonstrated the crucial role of science in solving global problems.

Finding methods of treatment to prevent and mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 is now a top priority for the global scientific community. Scientists of the Federal Research Center "Krasnoyarsk Science Center of SB RAS" also take an active part in solving this problem.

“The rapid global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that there are no clear global emergency response plans against threats to humanity posed by new viruses. One of the obvious disadvantages is the lack of technologies for the rapid development of drugs for diagnostics and therapy. To solve this problem, an international team of scientists and doctors from Russia, Finland, Italy, China and Canada was created. We all have different competencies, knowledge, skills and resources. Our geographically distributed team consists of doctors, virologists, biologists, chemists, mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and programmers.

International cooperation is critical to making rapid progress and responding quickly to the ever-changing global COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, a fundamentally new antiviral agent is expected to be created. We hope that our research will really help fight the spread of such infections, ” says Anna Kichkailo, Head of the Laboratory of Controlled Digital Drugs and Theranostics of the Krasnoyarsk Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Head of the Laboratory of Biomolecular and Medical Technologies at V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky Krasnoyarsk State Medical University.
