Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North

The Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North as a part of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences was established in 1976 according to the decision of the Board of the State Committee of the Council of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for Science and Technology (№12 as of 16.03.76) and the resolution of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for Labor and Wages (№140) as well as to the order of the USSR Ministry of Health (№ 569 as of 02.06.76).

The main objective of the activity of the Institute is the preservation and development of the population health in the North and Siberia under the conditions of long active life.

The main scientific directions:

• The study of epidemiology, peculiarities of pathogenesis and course of the most widely spread infectious and noninfectious diseases among adult and children population in the North and Siberia.
• The study of the ecological peculiarities of functioning of the main systems, physical and mental development, clinical aspects of adaptation and peculiarities of pathologies of the adult and child’s organism of newly arrived and indigenous population under the conditions of the North and Siberia.
• The development of effective methods for the prevention, diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of the most widely spread diseases of indigenous and newly arrived population of the North and Siberia.
